While I’m chatting about backing up your files, it’s also important to create and backup a photographic home inventory. That way, if your home is ever damaged (by fire, hurricane, flooding, etc.) or if you are ever burglarized, you’ll have a photographic record of what you had in your home for the insurance companies and/or police.
So, on your “day off” tomorrow, when you get done picking up your yard to rid it from anything that could become flying debris, take a moment to go around your home, inside and out, to photograph each room from varying angles. Get room shots as well as closeups of expensive items. Then, don’t forget to upload it to an online backup, like Picassa, Flickr, or even Carbonite, because if your computer is ever damaged or if it is stolen, you will still want access to your home inventory.
This is on my to-do list as well, ever since a good friend of mine was burglarized, so hopefully I’ll get to it tomorrow too.
